Closeness without keeping score
Replace a tally with a conversation about what each of you misses.
Name the feeling behind the number
If you find yourself counting how often something happens, ask what the count represents. You might be missing affection, reassurance, novelty, or uninterrupted time. Describing that experience gives your partner more to respond to than a comparison with someone else’s relationship.
Let different preferences be visible
Two people can value the relationship and still want different amounts or kinds of intimacy. Ask what each person enjoys and what feels pressured. Listen for changes in context rather than assuming a fixed explanation. There is no universal schedule that a relationship must meet to count as close.
Make a request that can be declined
Try suggesting a specific, low-pressure moment together and invite an honest answer. Consent and comfort matter every time. If the same conversation keeps becoming painful or stuck, you may choose to seek qualified relationship support. A general article can suggest questions, but it cannot assess your individual relationship or replace personalized care.
